Fall Classic Final Game Captures 51M Viewers In the United States, Canada and Japanese Markets.

The exciting extra-inning contest that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers overcome the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 attracted a combined over 50 million watchers in the US, Canada, and Japanese territories. MLB stated this is the most-watched World Series finale after the 1991 edition showdown featuring the Twins and Braves.

Television Ratings Details

Last Saturday’s epic contest averaged 27.33 million viewers on Fox Sports channels, Fox Deportes and their digital services. According to Nielsen, it was the second highest-rated program of the previous week.

It also stands as the top-rated Fall Classic matchup since the 2017 Game 7 between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew 29.07M. This represents a 16% increase compared to the previous Game 7 between the Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19 million.

In the weekly rankings, the sixth game ranked 4th, Game 4 ranked 7th, the fifth game was eighth, and the third game finished in thirteenth position.

Global Audience Figures

In the Canadian market, the game recorded over 11 million viewers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports channel. This made it the highest-rated English-language program in Canada since the 2010 edition Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final contest began at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it drew 12 million. This came after the previous Friday’s sixth game – where Fall Classic MVP Yamamoto gave up one run in six innings – averaged 13.1 million viewers, making it the most-watched World Series matchup on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Overall Averages and Patterns

The entire seven-match World Series averaged 15.71 million audience members on Fox, a 2% increase from the previous year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This marks the initial instance after 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has seen viewership increases for two straight years.

Counting the opening game broadcast on the Univision network, the total US average reached 16.1M. The overall World Series average in Japan was 9.7M and 8.1M in the Canadian market.

The full MLB Postseason on Fox and its sister channels recorded over 8 million viewers, an 8% rise compared to last year and Fox’s best postseason ratings since 2017.

MLB announced that the World Series was broadcast in 203 countries and territories by forty-four broadcasting partners in 16 different tongues.
