Approximately 50 automobiles have been covered with what appears to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to police.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postboxes were marked, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they stated in a statement.
Law enforcement say they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a resident noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish substance.
The liquid had been drawn in the form of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Officers then located multiple other vandalized automobiles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under laws outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement say initial examinations indicate the liquid was likely human blood.
"Currently there is no clue as to where it came from; investigators are presently not cognizant of any injuries in relation with the occurrence," they commented.
Local authorities announced they were working "to resolve the mystery" and have asked to the community for tips.
A high-ranking political figure said the incident rendered him speechless and required to be addressed promptly.
"This act affects the center of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the right-wing violent incident half a decade ago," he wrote on a platform, recalling the killing of nine victims by a assailant targeting individuals of migrant background in February 2020.
